Leap of Faith (part 2)

June 5th, 2014

It’s been more than a month since we posted our last blog post!

Why?

Here’s why…

Since our trip to San Francisco so much changed (read “Leap of faith” post). We’ve been talking to publishers, investors, banks, family and friends to find the best solution to finance our game.

Today we cut the knot! We signed the contract! We got the loan…

money pppp

Yes, a loan… We decided that we should at least try to find enough funds to develop the base of our game, without losing our creative freedom, without having to verify every step with a publisher or investor. We wanted to have that security, before we ask you, our potential Kickstarter backers, to support us. We’re taking a huge risk, but with all the positive attention we’ve been getting, we have to believe we can do this! And if our Kickstarter helps a little, together we can really make Woolfe kick some fairy ass!

The whole administrative process of getting all the paperwork sorted out took MUCH more time than anticipated… putting us in a dangerous position money-wise… we had to survive without food and water for a more than 3 months now…

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you our fans, our family and our friends who have been so generous to support us during these hard times.

Now our focus can go back to giving you more updates, we have a lot more exciting news to share the next few weeks, stay tuned!

Woolfe at Antwerp Convention

April 28th, 2014

Showing off our Little Red Riding Hood and playtesting Woolfe at Antwerp Convention.

Antwerp Convention is a relatively new sci-fi / fantasy / game event (4 y/o) here in Belgium, but it is growing fast!  With few thousand people interested in fantasy and games, it was the perfect place to put Woolfe in the spotlight!

We had a great time! It was actually the first time people came up to us telling us they already heard about our game and loved what they had seen.

Like last year at the FACTS convention we handed out free posters to anyone that seemed interested and we also had a playable preview of the factory level available. It’s feels so good to see people enjoying the fruit of our labor. We can’t wait to make it available for everybody!

Help us find the voice…

April 16th, 2014

Another step in the development of Woolfe has been taken. A big part of our game is story, told by Red Riding Hood herself… so it’s quite important to find the right voice for the part.

Casting

While searching the net for voice actors we could use for the part, we discovered the website www.GameVoices.co.uk . The site is not so easy to navigate, so we just sent John an email. He informed us that we could request an audition for the part we needed, and so we did. After setting up a briefing with lot’s of spoilers, and then stripping all the spoilers, all we had to do was wait for reactions…

We did not have to wait for long… within the hour the first auditions rolled in and they kept on rolling for as long as the call was open (one week). In total more than 80 female voice actors applied and auditioned for the part. We were totally overwhelmed by the amount of applications.

The first cut

We needed to narrow down the list. 83 was just too much. We’re no voice casting specialists, so then we made up our own way of rating. We gave points to:

  • Mental voice age (does she sound smart enough?)
  • Physical voice age (does she sound young enough for the part?)
  • Engaging / interesting (could you listen to her for a whole game?)
  • Storytelling (does she get the feeling and timing right?)
  • Je ne sais quoi (does she have that special crazy thing you can’t put your finger on?)

We were able to narrow down the list from 83 to 8 voices we think could be right for the part.

We need you help!

Now we’re asking for your opinion. Since we have no idea what you in USA, Canada, Australia and the rest of the world think would be the best voice, we could really use your help. (Don’t worry, we will have voices for other languages too… but first let’s choose this English one).

Here is an overview of our 8 favorite voices with the 8 runner-ups in random order to give you some extra options to choose from.

Please use the video comments to tell us which voices you like best and why!

Thanks!!!

***UPDATE***
Public casting is over, thank you for all your feedback and suggestions! We never expected so many enthusiastic and honest  reactions. We have selected 3 voices for the second cut. We will ask them to do an extra dialog with a different mood and make our final decision after evaluating that… Keep you posted!

Dev build Friday, it’s alive!!!

April 11th, 2014

Today was a good day! All week everybody has been working together towards this moment; a working build of the Woolfe City Level!

This is one of those moments the whole team comes together, sits back and tries to enjoy what’s been created.

While the game was copying (1.2GB) and installing, we even found some extra time to work on a some small Augmented Reality Woolfe gadgets and crack a few well deserved beers.

Leap of faith…

March 28th, 2014

As you know… we were hoping to give you a playable demo by the end of this month but a lot has happened the last few weeks… Don’t worry, they’re all good things… but the result is that we can’t give you anything to play just yet. Read all about it in the rest of this post.

In the meantime, we hope this work-in-progress teaser video of the “Woolfe – Forest Level” makes up for it a bit…

Early access, Kickstarter or Publisher?

March 11th, 2014

OK, you know we got nominated at Game Connection USA… this event is mainly for developers and publishers to find each other… In order to win the honorable prize as “best hardcore pc & console game” we have to do a 5 minute pitch towards an audience of investors and publishers.

This made us think about how we should release our game…

About a year ago, we decided to make the game Woolfe. We knew we wouldn’t have enough money the make the complete game the way we wanted to… The only solution we could think of was to chop the story into 3 chapters and develop/release them one-by-one as Episodes of the game or via Steam Early Access… Every chapter contains 3 distinct levels of about an hour gameplay each.
