Get Ready for Red! – Woolfe: The Red Hood

Diaries Out Now

GRIN Studios releases new gameplay trailer for cinematic fable available now on Steam for PC | http://play.woolfegame.com

March 17 2015 – Antwerp, Belgium /… Developed by GRIN Studios, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is a cinematic fable featuring a vengeful Red Riding Hood, launching with a picnic basket full of fury today on Steam for PC. To commemorate the launch, GRIN has released a new gameplay trailer.

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is a surprising take on the classic tale as you know it. All grown up, cried out and armed with an axe, our heroine Red Riding Hood embarks on an odyssey to avenge the death of her parents at the hands of nefarious corporate giant B. B. Woolfe.

Get ready to take Red on an epic journey with good old-fashioned action platforming, fun combo-based hack ‘n slash combat and rewarding environmental puzzles that explore this grim fairy tale fantasy universe.

GRIN’s founder and CEO Wim Wouters said: “Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries has been a labour of love for the GRIN team and we are excited to pass the control pad for our unique interpretation of the Red Riding Hood myth to the gaming world.”

Key Features

• A twisted fairy tale story – GRIN’s take on the Red Riding Hood legacy is not an ordinary bedtime story. Four years ago, Red Riding Hood’s father, Joseph, lead engineer for Woolfe Industries, died in a work accident. At least, that’s what his  family was told. All grown up, our heroine is ready to unveil the truth and present the bill for her tragic loss.

• A Rich, Visual Experience – Woolfe’s atmospheric artwork lets the player explore a rich fantasy universe centered around a city paralyzed with fear and occupied by tin soldiers. Sneak through the slums, descend into the city sewer system, run through the harbor and escape the city into an evil forest, where gravity, wolves and scary fairies are out to get you.

• 2.5D Action-Platforming – The tale’s 2.5D levels combine the simplicity of side scrolling gameplay with three-dimensional puzzles.

• Fast, Axe Wielding Combat – Armed with her trusty axe, Red will need to skillfully execute combos to strike at her foes’ weaknesses.

• Deranged Fairytale Enemies – On her journey, Red faces some bloody encounters with “familiar fairytale faces” such as The Pied Piper, tin soldiers, big bad wolves, scary fairies and – of course – her nemesis B.B. Woolfe.

The first of two fully-fledged, stand-alone yet successive volumes, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is now available on Steam for $9.99 (NA), €9.99 (EUR), £6.99 (UK) and CDN $10.99. Red’s journey will continue in Volume 2, which is scheduled for release on PC during August 2015.

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is also planned for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.

About GRIN

GRIN was founded in 2002 as a research and development studio for online and browser-based games and applications. For over a decade, GRIN’s interactive creations were used for installations, events, campaigns and educational purposes – mainly for clients. Over the past few years, GRIN invested in its creative independency with a series of mobile games for pre-schoolers and a first big indie-title for PC and console. Though at first sight diverse in outcome, GRIN’s portfolio is  haracterized by one leitmotif: an insatiable hunger for new technologies and opportunities in interactive storytelling.

Woolfe – The Red Hood Diaries

GRIN’s dark fairytale platformer releases March 17th.

March 2015 – Antwerp, Belgium: Following a successful Kickstarter campaign last summer and a short but intense Early Access trajectory on Steam, GRIN prepares for the PC release of Woolfe – The Red Hood Diaries in just a few days. Step into the boots of a vengeful Red Riding Hood and run, jump, puzzle and battle your way towards the hidden truth behind her father’s death.

On your marks…

Wim Wouters, GRIN founder and CEO, promised himself to release a first indie contribution to the entertainment industries before hitting 40. Two years ago, inspiration came knocking on the studio’s door: applying for an entirely different job at the gamestudio, Davy Penasse’s 10 second demo of a Little Red Riding Hood in an evil forest, marked the beginning of GRIN’s very own fairytale.

The 6 person Antwerp based studio was granted some basic funding and began working on a prototype for Woolfe – The Red Hood Diaries in spring 2013. A first public outing on Steam Greenlight proved they were onto something: Woolfe got Greenlit in just 5 days. Next up were a nomination for the Best PC and Console category at GameConnection, and a surprise call from Microsoft: “Hey, we loved your trailer: can we feature it in our ID@XBOX showcase at E3?”.

“This is not a fairytale. There’s nothing fair about it.”

To put it briefly: the bar kept on being raised, the scope kept on growing bigger.

“All in all, developing Woolfe has been an action platformer in itself”, says Wouters. “We’re a small team and -even with the very helpful support we’ve received through some investors and our Kickstarter backers- Woolfe was developed on a really tight budget. Looking back, we’ve faced our share of puzzles, tricky jumps and battles along the way, but we’re proud of what we’re about to put out there and honestly hope people will enjoy their stay in the Woolfe universe.”
